SUMMER IN BARCELONA
This vibrant, warm city now holds a special place in my heart. Let me share on my itinerary before I dive into the highlights of the city. But before I do, let us take a moment of silence to pray for the victim of the recent attack @ la rambla.
I was just there the week before the attack. Thank god we made Barcelona our first stop instead of the last otherwise, we will be there during those few days. I simply do not wish think what will happen if we were there. :(
Most Singaporeans tend to visit Europe in Spring / Autumn where the weather is cooler but we prefer to go in Summer allowing us to travel light and having longer daylight hours means dinner later and staying out longer. Summer is also a peak tourist season and hotels are generally more expensive.
Day 1 - Arrive in Barcelona
Flew to Barcelona from Singapore via SQ with their new 13hrs direct flight. This is simply awesome and save all the hassle and time wasted from transiting and we touched down before 7am (giving us more time to explore).
We stayed at Hostal Operaramblas - a 2 star hotel but given 4 star rating by Tripadvisor. Just a 3mins walk to the nearest metro - Liceu station and a 10mins walk to Catalunya Station which is also where the Shuttle Bus to/fro the Airport stops at.
After leaving the luggage at the hotel, we headed straight to the main focus of our stay in this vibrant city - La Sagrada Familia. Thank god we booked our ticket online prior otherwise we will have to queue in the hot sun and waste some precious time.
La Rambla
After a terrific lunch @ Tossa, we return to Catalunya visiting the 2 shopping malls, stocking up some water for the next 4 days and checking out La Boqueria Market & La Rambla along the way.
Day 2 - Passeig de Gracia
Exploring 2 other works of Gaudi ~ Casa Batllo and Casa Mila. Got the sunrise ticket online for Casa Batllo which technically means Early Bird where they limit 30 visitors for this group that starts @ 8:30am. Tickets @ EUR36pp whereas a normal ticket cost EUR23.50.
Casa Mila ~ less popular compared to Casa Batllo but still many visitors. Declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1984.
Afternoon was set aside for Park Guell but we did not book any tickets prior to the visit. After taking metro to the nearest station and walk for a good 20 ~ 30mins under the hot sun, to our dismay the tickets were sold out for the day :(
We resort to booking the tickets online for next day's visit.
Explored Gothic Quarter and had some really good churros (will share more about it in a separate post).

Day 3 - Park Guell + Barceloneta
Made our way back to Park Guell after a great breakfast @ Escriba and thus giving Montjuic Castle and Magic Fountain of Montjuic a miss.
Since its Sunday, we had to make Barcelona Beach one of the places to visit. A pity we were not in the right attire to do some tanning. -_-
Day 4 - Camp Nou
This is for the Mister who is a football fan. He suggested to put this into the itinerary and well, I am glad he is happy to be there.
As for the rest of the day, we did some laundry @ some coin laundromat near the hotel, did some shopping and R&R.
Hope the above helps when it comes to planning your trip.
Lastly, do hydrate yourself throughout the day as the weather is extremely hot and dry during summer and stay alert to keep the pickpockets away.
Cheers!
